Greek National Opera’s second summer production for 2019 is Giuseppe Verdi’s highly popular work La traviata, which will be presented for the first time at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus. The unlucky love of “The Lady of the Camellias” for Alfredo Germont, as perceived and set to music by Giuseppe Verdi through uniquely powerful melodies indelibly etched in the heart and mind, will come to life in a new production directed by Konstantinos Rigos, in his operatic debut. In the title role the rising CubanAmerican soprano Lisette Oropesa, who created a sensation singing leading roles in Europe and in the USA. The much sought-after coloratura soprano with the immaculate technique and stage performance, after Greece, will interpret the same role at the MET, this upcoming season. In the second cast, the Russian soprano Ekaterina Siurina, who has appeared in the most prestigious opera houses of the world (Teatro La Scala, MET, Royal Opera House, among others).
