The “Operas Primeras” series of screenings, which is presented for the second consecutive year at the Hellenic American Union, aims to showcase the first works of new Spanish filmmakers who create in very different genres but believe in cinema as a common medium of expression.
For 2018, the four films presented are directed by women. In the aftermath of #metoo, this year's "Operas Primeras", featuring two fiction films and two documentaries, express the power of female creativity which paves the way for smashing the manifestations of patriarchy.
The screenings’ schedule is as follows:
> December 10, 18:00: Dancing Beethoven (2017), Documentary by Arantxa Aguirre, Duration: 79΄. Rating: G.
> December 10, 19:30: Les amigues de l'Àgata (2016), Drama by Laia Alabart, Alba Cros, Laura Rius and Marta Verheyen, Duration: 72΄. Rating: G.
> December 11, 18:00: Esquece Monelos (2017), Documentary by Ángeles Huerta, Duration: 75΄. Rating: G. The screening will take place in the presence of the director, after which there will be a discussion with the audience, moderated by the Athens Hispanic Film Festival director, Stefanos Kollias.
> December 11, 20:00: La higuera de los bastardos (2017), Drama by Ana Murugarren Fabo, Duration: 106΄. Rating: PG-12.
The films will be screened with Greek subtitles.
The screenings are organized in cooperation with the Instituto Cervantes and SGAE Institute.
