French School at Athens

Founded in 1846, as the first foreign institution to be established in Greece, the French School at Athens is a centre for cutting-edge research in the field of Greek and Byzantine antiquity. It falls within the jurisdiction of the Ministry for Higher Education and Research, and is under the academic supervision of the Academy of Inscriptions and Belles-Lettres of the Institute of France. The French School at Athens is a member of the network constituted by the five French research establishments abroad (in Athens, Rome, Madrid, Cairo and the Far East).

Byzantine and Christian Museum

The Byzantine & Christian Museum, one of Greece’s most important public museums, was founded in the early 20th century (1914). The Museum has over 30,000 artefacts organized by subject and collections. They are dated from 3rd century AD to 20th century.

The Byzantine & Christian Museum permanent collections include two main sections. The first is dedicated to the Byzantine period (4th-15th c. AD) while the second, entitled “From Byzantium to the modern era” (15th-20th c.), to the history, culture and art of the Post-Byzantine Period.

Athens Biennale

The Athens Biennale constitutes a platform for the designation of the contemporary culture of the Athenian metropolis and the connection between the local artistic production and its creators and the international scene of the contemporary art. The Athens Biennale is directed by Poka-Yio and Nayia Yiakoumaki.

Art Athina, organized by the Hellenic Art Galleries Association, is one of the oldest art fairs of Europe. Its 22nd edition will be presented at Tae-Kwon-Do Stadium (Faliron Pavilion), May 25-28.

Acropolis Museum

The Acropolis Museum is an archaeological site-specific museum of the 21st century, housing the most famous works of antiquity. The rich collections provide visitors with a comprehensive picture of the human presence on the Acropolis, from pre-historic times through late Antiquity. Integral to this program is the display of an archeological excavation on the site of the Museum itself: ruins from the 4th through 7th centuries A.D., left intact and protected beneath the building and made visible through the first floor.
